Time Management in Maths Exam: Section-Wise Guide
Mathematics exams can feel overwhelming, not because of difficulty alone but due to the time pressure. Managing time wisely ensures that you attempt all questions with accuracy. Here’s a section-wise strategy to maximize your performance.

1. Section A (1 Mark Questions) – 15 Minutes

Start with short questions to gain confidence. These are usually direct formula-based or conceptual checks. Avoid overthinking—write the answer neatly and move on. Completing this section quickly builds momentum.

2. Section B (2 Mark Questions) – 25 Minutes

These require slightly more steps. Revise formulas for areas like Trigonometry, Algebra, and Statistics in advance. While solving, write steps clearly since marks are awarded for the process. Don’t spend more than 2–3 minutes on a single question.

3. Section C (3 Mark Questions) – 35 Minutes

These are application-based and often test problem-solving. Read carefully, underline data, and plan the solution. If stuck, mark the question and return later. Attempt the ones you are confident about first.

4. Section D (4 Mark Questions) – 50 Minutes

This is the most time-consuming section. Solve with calmness—questions usually involve geometry, coordinate geometry, or case studies. Organize your answer step by step, and double-check calculations.

5. Revision & Recheck – 15 Minutes

Use the last 15 minutes to recheck units, calculations, and skipped questions. Many marks are lost due to small errors, so this step is crucial.

Final Tip

Always wear a watch, divide time before the exam, and stick to the plan. Effective time management ensures you not only attempt all questions but also present them clearly for maximum marks.
